For our alpaca garments, we do not use any kind of dyestuff or chemical product.  We use only the naturally pigmented alpaca fibers which provide a wide variety of shades ranging from black,  through grays, to white and  also include a variety of browns.  With more than thirty different shades available the color range exactly satisfies the demands of the ecologically-minded public of our times.  

 Alpaca fiber is thermally insulating and gives protection again heat or cold.  

Let us tell you something about alpacas. 
 
 
The alpaca is a camelid in the same family as the llama, vicuña and huanaco.   Among the four types of South American camelids, the alpaca is the most numerous.  The Peruvian population of some 3,5 million individuals, representing about 75% of the world total of alpacas, live in the completely natural environment  of the Peruvian Highlands (the Sierra) at altitudes between 3800 and 4500 m above sea level where they graze on ichu ( a kind of grass ) which occurs naturally over vast extensions of this territory. Alpacas provide the principal means of subsistence for thousands of Altiplano families who raise the alpacas for their fleece which they shear annually. 
 
 
While it is true that the spinning of alpaca yarn is now industrialized, the preliminary stages of its processing are carried out by hand.  Sorting the fiber for color and quality is a manual skill which has been passed down for generations from mothers to daughters.  The alpaca is washed in a   natural way with hot water and bio-degradable detergents and the water is recycled. Carding, combing and spinning are done mechanically.  Chemical products and processes are not employed at any stage of the production of the alpaca yarn.  

Alpaca fiber is sorted into eight grades, and we utilize two of the best: FS (adult alpaca) and BL (baby alpaca).
